For the unsintered or sintered industrial ceramics, the rough machining is mainly performed by cutting, and the finishing is performed by grinding after sintering.

Depending on the situation of the industrial ceramics, the sintered body can also be directly ground and processed to achieve the design accuracy without processing. In the process of processing zirconia ceramics, industrial ceramics are almost similar to metal parts, but the machining allowance of industrial ceramics is much larger. Insufficient strength or surface processing defects are prone to occur, or due to insufficient clamping, etc., the required final processing shape cannot be obtained.

Another problem of industrial ceramic processing is that the cost of processing tools is relatively high, and high-priced sintered diamond and CBN tools are required for cutting. The cost of the tool is dozens to hundreds of times. The strength of industrial ceramics is very sensitive to processing, and it is difficult to achieve high-efficiency processing, so the processing cost of industrial ceramics is much higher than that of ordinary materials.
